Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know

New to electric karting? Planning a group visit? Here are the answers to the questions we are asked most often about racing at Surge E Karting.

Who can race?

Do I need a driving licence to race?

No driving licence is required. Our electric karts are designed for the track, and every driver receives a full safety briefing and instruction before their first session.

What is the minimum age?

The minimum age to race in our junior karts is 8 years old. Drivers must also be able to safely reach the pedals and comfortably wear a helmet. Adult karts are available from 13 years and above.

Are there height or size restrictions?

Cadet karts require a minimum height of 1 metre. Adult karts require a minimum height of 1.4 metres. There is no fixed upper limit, but very tall or larger drivers may find the cockpit less comfortable. If you are unsure, contact us and we can advise before you book.

Can I race if I have a medical condition or disability?

Go-karting is a physical activity, so it may not be suitable for everyone. Any condition that would prevent you holding a standard driving licence is likely to prevent you from racing. We want karting to be as accessible as possible, but our duty of care means we may need to carry out a quick risk assessment on the day. If you have any concerns, please email us in advance and we will be happy to discuss your needs.

What to wear

What clothes should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing you do not mind getting a little warm in. We provide a race suit and helmet for every driver. You will also need a balaclava; reusable cotton balaclavas are available to buy on arrival, or you can bring your own clean one.

What footwear do I need?

Closed-toe trainers are ideal. Shoes must fully cover the foot, so sandals, Crocs, open heels, or high heels are not permitted.

Can I wear my own helmet or race gear?

You are welcome to bring your own full-face helmet as long as it meets recognised safety standards and has a visor. Our team will check it before you head out. You can also wear your own one-piece race suit, provided it covers arms and legs, fits closely, and is in good condition. Motorcycle leathers are not suitable for our karts.

Can I wear glasses with the helmet?

Yes. Put the helmet on first, lift the visor, then carefully slide your glasses into place. Tinted or reactive lenses are not recommended because the circuit is indoors.

Booking & payment

How long is each session?

All standard race sessions are 15 minutes on track. That is plenty of time for plenty of laps on our compact, technical ceiling-suspended circuit.

How much does it cost?

Our Arrive & Drive sessions are £20 per driver for a 15-minute session. You can book for up to 20 drivers in one reservation.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, pre-booking is essential. We have limited spaces on each session to keep the track uncrowded, and full payment is taken at the time of booking to secure your slot.

How do I book?

You can book directly through our website. Choose your date and time slot, enter the number of drivers, fill in the driver details, and complete secure payment online.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

All bookings are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another date or time. Please double-check your chosen slot before completing payment.

At the venue

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled session. This gives you time to check in, get suited up, and listen to the safety briefing.

What happens if I am late?

We cannot delay a session for late arrivals, as this would affect every driver booked after you. If you are late, you may lose track time or be unable to race at all, so please allow plenty of time to get to us.

Can spectators watch?

Yes. Spectators are welcome to watch the action from our viewing area. Please note, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Is there parking?

We will have customer parking available on site. Full directions and transport options will be published closer to opening.

We are targeting a Spring 2027 opening. Planning and fit-out are underway now, and bookings will go live ahead of our opening date.

Where in Peterborough are you based?

Our Peterborough location will be announced once the lease and planning details are finalised. Sign up to our mailing list or follow us on social media to be the first to know.
